We fell in love 4 years ago and continue to be in love. God blessed us with a beautiful daughter in the midst of a snow storm and then continued to bless us by allowing us the privilege of watching her grow into such a lovely little girl!
While pregnant with her, we had fairly quickly decided on the name Brooke Joy. There wasn't too much significance to the name at the time. Brooke was just a name we liked and Joy just seemed to fit and was how we felt about having a child.
However, as the years have gone on, the name Brooke Joy has taken on more significance. She has definitely been a "bubbling ourtpouring of joy" in our lives. Everything she does is done with drama! She explodes with enthusiasm at the smallest things. She dances around and sings with passion. She loves life & God and makes those around her smile,(even when she's being grumpy and ridiculous!)
Today we celebrated with just our family. We started out with her choice of breakfast.
Pancakes - normal, Bacon - normal, Applesauce- weird. Then I also made a few cupcakes for the morning. (Don't worry, she'll get her fancy cake at her friends birthday party! You'll see that later)
After presents we skyped with Grandma Ferrie, Auntie Jenna & Jamie and cute little cousin Oliver.
Then she we went to church where she goes to Story Hour on Tuesday and I do bible study (but had a Christmas social that day.) They had a Christmas party too and sang happy birthday to Brooke and then came and sang some Christmas songs for us moms and grandmas. (Brooke's really funny when she performs. I'll have to load up some footage from her preschool program. She had us giggling!)
Later that afternoon, her cousins Cate and Amia came to play. She is so excited to be 4 like Amia that she shouted it to Amia over and over "I am 4 Amia!!!!" as Amia climbed out of their van and walked to the house. Then the rest of their family came for a supper of roasts, rice (with butter and brown sugar, of course), applesauce (again, not so weird now) and peas.

Brooke is definitely my daughter! She's silly like her momma!
Then we opened some presents. First up was a new outfit, including SKIPPING PANTS!!
The girl lives in skipping pants (which are called leggings to the rest of the world, but {shhhh} don't tell her that!)
Then we opened up the "HUGE" present -- a princess art kit. They had these things at Costco and they just SCREEEAAAMED Brooke! Her and Caleb had it all out and the house covered in stickers and markers and paper within 10 minutes.
Do you think she likes it? (oooo...wow!! Thaaaaank You !)

She had an awesome day. She is now looking forward to getting sung to in preschool tomorrow and then her friends party on Friday! There will be lots of celebrating in the days to come!
A while back I pinned (along with everyone else in the Pinterest World) a book from Reave, Party of 4 where she created a scrapbook where you ask your child the same 20 questions every year from the age of 3 until they graduate.
Well, here are some questions I asked Brooke today.
(I hope I can remember to do this for the coming years)
Enjoy her (unedited) answers!
Happy Birthday Brooke! We love you!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes.
P.S. If you are wondering about the gash on Brooke's head. She had a little help (from Caleb, who feels very bad...YEAH, he has a conscience!) into the outside corner of a wall last week and needed stitches. That's a whole other post.
Her grandpa had a hip replacement the following day, so she likes to compare her 'owie' to grandpas. It's cute to see her concern for Grandpa Bekkering, who BTW is doing well. His leg is weak, but he's up and moving and taking it easy, while leaning on our heavenly Father for patience and healing.
Love,
Kat

I have never heard of anyone else eating rice with butter and brown sugar before! Whenever I tell people that I eat it like that, they look at me like I have three heads or something.
